Oliver's Wine Bar is the culmination of 17 years of evolution for owners Brian Schneider and Tom Quanrud, who moved from their long time home in Minneapolis to Red Wing, Minnesota in 1998 to start a new business venture in the historic downtown district, a coffee house and flower shop called Lily's Coffee House & Flowers. Several years later the coffee & food side of the business was sold and a new business, Inspired Home & Flower Studio, was born. We moved on from the retail side of the business in October 2014 but Brian continues to offer Interior Design services, specializing in window coverings and home staging. During the past 19 years we have purchased and renovated six buildings in the downtown district, the last at 227 Bush Street, the home of Oliver's Wine Bar.
Brian received his degree in Interior Design from Alexandria Technical College. He worked at a design firm in St. Cloud for five years before moving to Minneapolis to start his own business in 1995. After working with many residential and commercial clients, including the Hilton Hotel and the Mendakota Country Club in St. Paul, Brian began expanding his business to include fresh flower work for social events and weddings. To develop his natural talent, Brian worked part time with two flower shops and continued his interior design business.
After receiving his B.A. in Personnel Services and B.S. in Spanish Education from Moorhead State University, Tom taught Spanish at the high school level for seven years in a Minneapolis school district followed by three years at a privately-owned and operated language school for adults in Dinkytown, near the University of Minnesota campus. He has traveled extensively throughout Spain and Mexico, including a semester of study in northern Spain. He currently works as the General Manager of Oliver's Wine Bar.
Opening Oliver's Wine Bar is an opportunity for us to continue to invest in locally-owned small businesses--we are proud to be a part of Red Wing's vibrant downtown community!
A lot of people asked about Oliver.... he is our adorable puppy, a German short-hair Jack Russell mix. This is a painting commissioned by local Red Wing artist Art Kenyon, on display near the 3rd Room.
